As a home-based seamstress in Afife, Ghana, Kuabe Grace’s hands never stop. In order to provide a decent life for her family, she starts her small home stitching business early in the morning. From local wear to school uniforms, and from clothing to footwear, she takes on every piece of work to refine her sewing skills and support her family for a brighter future.
The Barriers Kuabe Grace Faces
Grace is a talented woman, and her passion for stitching has enabled her to help her family since she was a young girl. However, even though she has been working very hard, Grace still cannot afford an advanced electronic sewing machine with her current earnings. As a result, she has to turn away some customers because she simply does not have the capacity to serve them.
You Can Help Grace Weave a Brighter Future
Grace plans to expand her home business into a bigger sewing shop and sell her designs and artwork to everyone in the community. Thanks to the workshop, Grace is equipped with the feasible ideas and plans she needs for a sustainable stitching business.
What Grace requires now is a little help from you. She needs €500 to purchase an electronic sewing machine and bulk fabrics.
Once Grace establishes her shop, she will be able to secure the living expenses of her family, expand from a home business to the wider commercial world, and encourage more women in the Afife region to pursue their childhood dreams. What’s more, she can even teach other women sewing techniques and hire more women to extend the support she gets from you to the greater good: the improvement of the financial situation of even more women.
