Dreams in the Oven: My Story as a Young Baker in Ghana

Hello, my name is Awumey Rejoice Afi, a 27-year-old baker from Accra, Ghana. Ever since I was a child, I’ve loved creating beautiful things with my own two hands. That passion led me into event decoration and baking, two crafts that allow me to bring joy to others.

Today, I run a small but growing baking and event decoration business. But for me, this business is more than just cake. My vision is to expand beyond baking into event decoration and pastry supply for local businesses, becoming the go-to choice for meetings, parties, and community events. In the future, I hope to see my products sold in schools, hotels, grocery stores, and even beyond Ghana’s borders.

To reach that next level, I need some essential tools and materials, including a professional baking oven, cake mixers, high-quality ingredients, and decoration accessories. With these, I’ll be able to meet the growing demand while ensuring every cake retains its authentic Ghanaian taste.

This journey isn’t only about me. I’m part of a microloan group of hardworking entrepreneurs:

farmers, bakers, and small business owners, who believe in the power of local enterprise. Every loan we receive is more than financial support; it’s an investment in community resilience, growth, and empowerment.

I come from Afife, a small village in Ghana’s Volta Region, where I learned perseverance, teamwork, and the value of giving back. Today, I put that spirit into every pastry I make. Because each cake is more than a treat, it’s a slice of love, a bite of hope, and a dream in the making.

I would like to invite you to support my business and help me take it to the next stage. Your contribution will not only help me grow but also uplift others in my community through shared opportunity and inspiration.

Will you join me in making our dreams a reality?
